One by One

Ponder these verses on having a personal relationship with Christ:

Revelations 3

20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Jeremiah 29

11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.
13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

Hebrews 11

6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

James 4

8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

How can the Lord have an individual relationship with each of us? How do we form this relationship with Him?

Seek His Face Continually

Ponder on these verses about prayer:

1 Chronicles 16

10 Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord.
11 Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face continually.

2 Chronicles 7

14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Ephesians 6

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Jeremiah 29

12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.
13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
14 And I will be found of you, saith the Lord:

James 5

13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.

Psalms 145

18 The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.
19 He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.

Matthew 7

11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

Mark 11

24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

How does prayer help us grow closer to God and draw on His power?

Choose to Walk with Christ – Day 14 on a 14 Day Walk with Christ

Over time I’ve found that the most important thing we can do to stay close to our Savior Jesus Christ is to intentionally choose to walk with Him.

We must make an effort each day to connect with Him. We must regularly study His life and His teachings. We must use the sacred powerful gift of prayer to commune with Him. We must choose to remember and honor the covenants we have made with Him. And we have to choose to do these things again and again, day after day. If we do not, we slowly drift away from Him and become lost in the worries of the world.

But if we will choose to do these things we can collect on the promise made in Isaiah 40:

31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Christmas and studying the Nativity are such a great annual reminder for me to check my bearings, assess my priorities, and to determine where adjustments need to be made. Then I take the week between Christmas and New Year’s and decide on a focus word I want to use during the upcoming year.

Challenge: What will your focus word be for 2019 to help you more steadily walk with Christ?

Worship – Day 13 on a 14 Day Walk with Christ

There are so many examples of ways to worship in the Nativity Story. The thing they all had in common was their attitude of reverence and adoration.

Defining worship Dean M. Davies said:

When we worship God, we approach Him with reverent love, humility, and adoration. We acknowledge and accept Him as our sovereign King, the Creator of the universe, our beloved and infinitely loving Father.
We respect and revere Him.
We submit ourselves to Him.
We lift our hearts in mighty prayer, cherish His word, rejoice in His grace, and commit to follow Him with dedicated loyalty.
Worshipping God is such an essential element in the life of a disciple of Jesus Christ.”

Like the angels we can sing praises of Him. Like the shepherds we can act in obedience seeking Him and sharing the good news about Him. And like the wise men we can put time and effort into serving Him and those around us.
